A High Performance Approach to Cardiac Resynchronization therapy

Heart failure is a major health problem not only for the number of people affected (about five million in Europe) but also because of the direct and indirect costs for its treatment. In cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), implantable pacemakers with multiple pacing electrodes and carefully adjusted stimulation times are used as a treatment. The aim of this project is to develop a validated high-performance simulation framework that allows for the efficient and reliable simulation of the heart's activation sequence on modern supercomputers.

The project is a joint effort of the Institute of Computational Science (Group of Prof. Krause), Prof. A. Auricchio from the Fondazione Cardiocentro Ticino and Mark Potse and Prof. Fritz Prinzen from Maastricht University.
